Built from the Fir timber beams of an ancient Japanese temple, Trailside Nirvana is unlike any other home in Telluride. Designed by architect Michael Fuller and decorated by Laura Schwendt, the architecture and finishes of this sprawling home incorporate timeless handmade craftsmanship and peaceful FengShui principles. Perched trailside on the Telluride Ski Resort, you'll have easy access to all of the mountain top action- including exclusive access to Upper Sundance- while still remaining removed and secluded on over two acres of land and your own private, four-bedroom sanctuary.
Taking inspiration from traditional Japanese architecture, the front facade of Trailside Nirvana boasts massive wood beams, wood joinery practices, and even a gong. Dramatic mirrored statues welcome you into the formal living area, where gigantic wood beams continue throughout the vaulted ceiling, and the walls are adorned with eye-catching, contemporary artwork.
Elegant sofas face one another and surround the stone fireplace, while through the windows you can gaze out at the show-stopping mountain peaks in the distance. A cozier, more casual lounging space lies just around the corner with a plush sectional sofa, armchair, fireplace, and HDTV. There's also a media room with a super-comfy sofa/day bed and a huge HDTV with a fun gaming system.
Up a few stairs lies the open dining area, featuring a circular table with seating for eight next to a double-sided stone fireplace. The spacious kitchen has plenty of space to spread out while preparing a meal or snack, with gorgeous custom natural wood cabinets and gleaming granite countertops. The oval island has barstool seating for four while still allowing plenty of prep space. A French-door, paneled refrigerator sits next to the convenient wine storage grid, and a chilled sparkling water dispenser keeps you easily hydrated. The kitchen is also equipped with a premier gas range, vent hood, and a separate, wall-mounted double oven.
Spread throughout the home, each one of the bedrooms has its own style and personality. There's a state-of-the-art oxygen concentration system in all four bedrooms that turns on automatically each night (and off each morning) and brings the effective altitude down to the equivalent of 5000 feet, greatly helping with acclimatization. The first bedroom features a classic king-size bed and a small seating area with stunning mountain views, while the ensuite bathroom includes a unique step-up soaking tub and a step-in shower. The second bedroom suite includes a king-size bed that sits inside a plush upholstered frame and an attached bathroom with a separate tub and shower.
The third bedroom resembles a five-star, luxury hotel room with a king-size bed, an armchair, and an ensuite bathroom. The fourth and final bedroom is a fun and vibrant bunk room, with two twin-over-twin-size bunks and a separate double bed. This room also has its own attached full bath.
With a home that's been designed with such extraordinary care and precision, it can be a challenge to want to leave! But rest assured, you'll want to venture outside to drink in the crisp mountain air and gaze out at the heart-stopping views. In the backyard, there's a stone fire pit that's the perfect spot for sipping wine and roasting s'mores. The patios are also heated, making it easy to enjoy the outdoors even in winter.
And when you're ready for adventure, the Sundance ski run and epic hiking trails are right outside your back door. There's even a convenient mudroom for storing all your outdoor gear and two laundry facilities. After your workout, the relaxing 6-person hot tub is the perfect spot to soak the day away. Trailside Nirvana is a rugged yet tranquil slice of picture-perfect bliss in the Rocky Mountains.
