Wondering where to stay in Telluride? Below we’ve compiled some important information to help you find the perfect place for you and your loved ones. However, there are a few questions you should ask yourself first:

  • When are you visiting? Will the weather be warm or cold?Keep in mind that, normally, snow covers Telluride for more than half the year. You’ll experience cold weather from October through April, and sometimes into May. It also never gets very hot in Colorado—temperatures often average in the mid-70s during the summer months.
  • Will you have small children with you? Families that have younger children love Mountain Village for its beginner’s ski school. Otherwise, families with older kids often stay in the town of Telluride for ease of walking to various shops and restaurants.
  • Are you hoping to be in a remote location? This is important for you to think about, as we have remote locations that propel you into Telluride’s glorious landscape. If that’s something you don’t want, and you’d rather walk out of your home and have neighbors nearby, then you’d want to pick a location in the town of Telluride.
  • Do you prefer skiing in and out or do you not mind walking to gondolas? We have ski in-and-out locations, but a lot of our homes are walk-to-ski. Think about whether or not you would like to have fast and easy ski mountain access.

The History of Telluride

Thanks to the booming mining industry, Telluride was put on the map. In 1887, miners found gold, silver, lead, copper, and other precious metals which made Telluride a very popular location. It prospered quickly—for about eighty years, the town thrived on mining practices.

However, once World War I and II took place, Telluride became a ghost town. This is when people started to take advantage of another Telluride treasure—the snow. By the late 1970s, Telluride reinvented itself into a world-class resort community.
