Gstaad Kid Friendly Restaurants

Switzerland’s beautiful village of Gstaad is an excellent family vacation destination because the entire community welcomes children, and there are plenty of family friendly activities to enjoy together. There’s skiing with safe slopes for your young family members during the winter months along with sledding, ice skating, carriage rides and indoor swimming, and the summer months offers great nature hikes, swimming in the clean, clear mountain lakes, fishing and scooter runs. 1. Charly’s Restaurant

Perfectly situated in the heart of the village and with a great view of the ice hockey field, Charly’s Restaurant is a favorite of adults and children alike. The delicious aroma of freshly baked pastries and breads is sure to draw you in, and you’ll discover a comfortable atmosphere filled with a wonderful mix of locals and visitors ready to enjoy a delicious meal or maybe a good cup of tea, coffee or Swiss hot chocolate with one of the homemade confections. Children are always welcome, and there’s a large aquarium filled with gorgeous fish where all of the youngsters tend to gather to watch the fish and play together.

Whenever possible, menu items are created from proteins and vegetables from the 200 local farms, and the confections are handmade from milk supplied by many of the 7000 cows that call the area home. A special menu is available for the children that includes fish and chips, chicken nuggets with fries and spaghetti, and other popular options include soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches, canapes, crepes and omelets. Make sure to leave room for the decadent cream cakes or the exquisite chocolate candies, and you may also enjoy a nice selection of fruit and vegetable smoothies. Charly’s Restaurant is open every day other than Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and there are always tasty vegetarian and gluten-free menu items available.

2. Ristorante Pizzeria Brasserie

Even children who tend to be picky eaters are sure to brighten up at this restaurant where they may choose a fresh-from-the-oven pizza made exactly to their specifications with all of the right toppings. There are also child-friendly pasta dishes, cheeseburgers with fries, fish and chips and fun, delicious desserts. The adults may enjoy their own meal while their children dive into their special foods, and you’ll have menu items to choose from that include a variety of soups and salads, Zurich-style veal with cream sauce, pan-fried sea bass, Swiss cheese fondue, a nice selection of Italian favorites and local Swiss dishes and an excellent variety of wine and champagne. This restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day with the exception of Mondays, and you’ll find a friendly atmosphere, delicious food, an attentive staff and plenty of seating for everyone.

3. Restaurant Alti Post

Those of all ages gather here for the best breakfast buffet in the region, and you’ll be amazed by the fabulous selection of freshly prepared, delicious breakfast fare that is sure to get the day started right for every member of your family. There’s seating available for up to 75 visitors, and you’ll find comfortable dining in this beautifully renovated building that was once the town post office. Come for breakfast each day beginning at 7 a.m., and you’ll want to go next door to the restaurant below for your lunch and dinner.

4. Restaurant Stubli

Chef Werner von Allmen is known for his traditional Saanenland dishes at this restaurant, and he has introduced a children’s menu that is designed to encourage the younger generation to try delicious new foods. All of their regular favorites are available as well so that you’ll never need worry about your children missing out on a wonderful meal. This may be the best place in Gstaad to discover Swiss cuisine, and you’re welcome to stop in for lunch or dinner all seven days of the week. Expect a cozy pub atmosphere filled with plenty of locals who are more than willing to talk to the visitors about their homeland. It stays open until 11 p.m., so it’s a great spot to stop in for an after-dinner or late-night drink of beer, wine or spirits.

5. Creperie de Gstaad

If you’re out with the family shopping in the heart of Gstaad, then this is the perfect place for the entire family to stop in for a meal or a special treat because this is absolutely a family restaurant with lots of children typically running about and playing together. You may all want to share one of the big, freshly prepared French crepes, or you may each choose a smaller one of your liking. Popular crepes include those made with Nutella, apples with salted caramel, chocolate, fresh fruit, cinnamon and a wonderful variety of sweet and salty crepes to satisfy everyone’s taste buds. It’s open every day from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you may also enjoy select meals that include French and European fare as well as vegetarian dishes.

6. Mountain Restaurant Eggli

Found at the top of the Eggli cableway and accessible only by a fun cable car ride, this incredible restaurant sits at over 6,000 feet above sea level and offers one of the most stunning mountain views in all of Gstaad. It’s a great place for lunch after a morning of skiing, and the children are sure to enjoy such favorites as pizza, burgers and fries. Other excellent dining options include a variety of delicious Swiss and European dishes with several vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals available as well.

Even in the winter, you may bundle up and dine on the large terrace that seats 200, and there’s also plenty of seating inside with space for 250 diners. A friendly, attentive staff is available to get your food to you quickly so that you may resume your day of fun, and there’s also a playground area onsite where the children can run and play. This area is fully visible from the terrace so that the parents can sit back and enjoy a meal or a drink while still keeping their young ones in view. Harsh winter conditions sometime require that the terrace and playground be closed, but it’s the perfect place to dine during sunny winter days.
