This steak house is located in a lovely old home, and you’ll have your choice of three wonderfully decorated rooms to dine in. These include the Arvenstube, the Cellar Bar and the Vault Room, which was an actual dungeon once upon a time.
This restaurant is open from 6 to 10 p.m. for dinner every night except Tuesday, and you’ll find the very best steak cuts along with Swiss and Mediterranean cuisine, local favorites and a vegetarian special each night. Popular dishes include deer and bison steaks, pumpkin soup and the not-to-be-missed Toblerone mousse. The bar offers everything from fine whiskeys to fresh-fruit cocktails, and it generally stays open later than the restaurant hours. If you visit in nice weather, then you may also choose to dine in the lovely garden.
2. Gourmet GuardaVal
Chef Rene Stoye is passionate about Alpine cuisine, and it shows in his incredible gourmet menu items that showcase all of the best seasonal offerings. Each dish is created only with ingredients found in the Swiss Alps, and nothing is canned or frozen. You may order individual dishes, but this restaurant is famous for its tasting menu, which allows you to choose from four courses, five courses or a full six courses. It’s a great way to try many of the chef’s most popular dishes, and you’ll definitely be glad that you did. There’s also a fireplace bar that provides the perfect romantic spot to enjoy a drink before or after dinner, and there’s a wonderful selection of fine spirits and creative cocktails available.
3. Restaurant Uja Traube
This Scuol favorite offers exceptional menu items in a cozy atmosphere. It’s open for dinner all seven evenings of the week, and you can also enjoy lunch from Thursday through Sunday. Choose from either the a la carte menu or the full four-course dinner that includes freshly prepared seasonal and regional favorites, which include both fresh and saltwater fish and creative vegetarian dishes. A few favorite menu items include the lamb with asparagus and risotto, chicken cordon bleu, homemade nut cake and capuns and an extensive selection of fine wines.
4. Hotel Engiadina Ustaria Restaurant
The small spaces at this Scuol restaurant offer a personalized dining experience, and it even has a special dining area that is devoted to romance, the Romantic Stuvetta, which is wonderfully cozy and beautifully decorated. A glass of wine from the well-stocked wine cellar complements each meal, and you’ll enjoy some incredible menu items that feature the freshest regional ingredients.
Meals come in either three or four courses, and you’ll be treated to the best Engadin specialties. Favorites include homemade pumpkin soup, deer-steak tartar, the best cuts of meat perfectly seasoned, delicious vegetarian plates and an impressive avocado and salmon appetizer. This restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
5. Hotel Restaurant Astras
Come enjoy a romantic dinner in this fine restaurant’s lovely Swiss-pine dining room with its exquisite view of the Engadin Dolomites, and an entire culinary team will introduce you to the best Swiss cuisine and local specialties as well. The service is incredible, and you’ll discover a waitstaff that treats you like you’re their only customer.
Both individual menu items and fabulous five-course meals are available, and you’ll enjoy such favorites as white wine soup, perfectly prepared local wild game, veal, spaghetti bolognese, freshly made vegetarian capuns and a decadent tiramisu. You’re also welcome to get a drink from the full bar, and spend some time relaxing in the ultra-comfy fireplace lounge before or after your meal.
