Just a short drive up the coast from beautiful Punta Mita is the charming coastal village set to host this year’s ISA (International Surfing Association) World StandUp Paddle and Paddleboard Championship (WSUPPC) – Sayulita, Mexico. Kicking off the ISA World Championship Series, this year’s event is the first ever SUP World Championship to be hosted in Mexico! For those of you lucky enough to be in Nayarit for this world-class event, the trip to Sayulita is one that is definitely worthwhile. Just 25 miles north of Puerto Vallarta, and half that from Punta Mita, this picturesque coastal village of 5,000 people is lined with quaint shops and restaurants. Beginning May 10th with the customary Opening Ceremony, the ISA WSUPPC competition will commence on May 11th and finally announce the victorious teams at the Closing Ceremony, scheduled to take place on May 17th. The WSUPPC is comprised of four distinct areas, including StandUp Paddle (SUP) Surfing, SUP Racing Technical, SUP Racing Distance and Paddleboard Racing (Technical and Distance). Those teams battling it out for the gold in this year’s World Championship include three time gold medalist, Australia, last year’s silver medalist USA as well as South Africa, Spain, France, New Zealand and newcomers Hawaii, Holland and the US Virgin Islands.
