Telluride Spring Skiing – Come Ski With Us

The lovely season of spring is literally right around the corner here in the states, and that has most people looking forward to seeing the brilliantly colored flowers bloom, the trees return to their greenest life, the area birds and other wildlife making a reappearance and some warm and wonderful temperatures. However, avid skiers are less than enthusiastic about the end of the ski season and may be feeling pretty down as they mourn the melting snow and the close of another year of great skiing. But we do have some good news for skiers that may just turn that frown upside down because the Telluride, Colorado, extended ski season means that you can still enjoy skiing for more than a month straight through Sunday, April 7.

Telluride has no idea that spring is nearly here, and as of this writing it is steadily snowing with more than 11” falling in the last 72 hours. The base and summit currently boast a powder snow of 72”, 144 of the 148 trails are open and all 17 of the chairlifts are fully operational and busy hauling happy skiers up the mountain. Many people avoid planning a ski vacation this late in the year because it is assumed that it will be difficult to book a flight at this time, but that isn’t true of Telluride since activities and events go on all year long. There are many year-round flights available to Telluride, and that includes several non-stop flights for your convenience. If you’re happiest when you’re on the slopes, then make plans now to come take advantage of the spring skiing in the Telluride mountains.

Telluride Spring Skiing – Everything is Open

It’s not just the skiing and snowboarding that you can still enjoy in Telluride because the entire town stays open and busy right through the ski season’s closing day. There are plenty of opportunities to ice skate, get in a little sledding, take a snowmobile tour to the nearby hot springs and even build a snowman. You’ll also find that the area’s wide selection of excellent restaurants, bars and stores are all open for business. Several of these establishments will be offering specials in honor of the last day of the skiing season, so come on out and get a taste of everything that Telluride has to offer.

Telluride Spring Skiing – Closing Day Activities

If it fits into your schedule, then you should plan to stay straight through closing day on Sunday, April 7, then you’ll enjoy some special activities that are designed to bid a fond farewell to another successful Telluride ski season. You’ll still be able to ski from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and these are just a couple of the extra planned festivities.

Closing Day Pond Skim

In case you’re not familiar with this entertaining and funny event, a pond skim involves skiers dressing up in some funny costumes and trying to ski or board across the icy pond water. Some helpful tips for participants include going for maximum speed when you hit the water and waxing your skis really well before your turn comes up. Registration begins at 10 a.m. at the Gorrono Ranch, and only the first 100 people to register will be allowed to participate. Everyone else is welcome to come watch the antics from the sidelines from noon to 2 p.m. Live music will be provided by DJ Soul Atomic, and alcoholic beverages along with cocoa and other non-alcoholic drinks will be available until 2:45 p.m.

Closing Day Live Music With The Main Squeeze

This powerful group brings an incredible blend of soul, hip-hop and rock to the stage, and you’ re invited to come to the Heritage Plaza in Mountain Village for a concert that is set for 3:15-4:45 p.m. You’ll be treated to a sample of music from their new album, “Without a Sound,” which is scheduled to be released on April 28 of this year.
