There are a number of key events taking place in and around Punta Mita during the month of July. Here is a snapshot of what we have going on next month from the livepuntamita.com website: This Friday, July 1st at 10 am, the Punta de Mita Foundation will host an inauguration ceremony to mark the beginning of work on the refurbishing project for the Sports Center (Unidad Deportiva) in Corral del Risco, and you’re invited! Appointment is at the Sports Center, located in Corral del Risco, 100 meters before the service entrance of Punta Mita. The ceremony will be held next to the basketball court by the rear entrance to the facilities. Riviera Nayarit International Tuna & Marlin Fishing Tournament
The 5th Annual International Tuna and Marlin Fishing Tournament will take place on July 14th to 16th at the Riviera Nayarit Marina in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Open to all ages and skill levels with teams of four members the tournament is offering $1.5 million pesos in prizes, including cars, a 4-stroke 60 HP outboard motor, professional fishing gear and free hotel stays. Yet another reason we love living in Punta Mita. Five years ago a 322-kilo (708.4 lb.) specimen was caught at the International Tuna and Marlin Fishing Tournament, breaking the record for the largest marlin ever caught in a competition. This year, competitors will be able to participate in the rewards for the largest catch of the day and earn cash prizes of up to $1000 USD per day plus $50,000 pesos for the first tuna beating the record of the bay. Summer Kids’ Sailing Program at La Cruz Yacht Club
It’s summertime, and what better way to spend the lazy–and hot!– days than by being in or on the water. As your kids break from school, be sure they experience something to remember this summer: learning to sail at the La Cruz Yacht Club. The Yacht Club’s “Kids Learn to Sail” is a special program created just for kids, this summer, open to ages 8 to 14 years old. From July 11th to August 5th, your kids will have fun and make new friends while learning this exciting sport. The program will run Monday to Friday from 11 am to 4pm. Your child may enjoy daily lessons — or just come for a single day, or a few days — meaning it works for vacationing kids, too! The cost per day is $300 pesos, and includes lunch. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to start a new sport. Later this year, when watching the professional athletes competing on the sailing teams in the Pan American games — they’ll understand the specific skills involved, and–who knows? may grow into being a competitor themselves, in the future.
