Classic car enthusiasts from all around the globe are expected to make a beeline for stunning Telluride, Colorado, for the 2018 Telluride Festival of Cars and Colors that has been scheduled for Sept. 26-29. It's the perfect time of the year for this popular automotive celebration as the foliage in the San Juan Mountains displays its spectacular fall colors, and those in attendance are sure to enjoy the great numbers of vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, war planes and snowmobiles. This event is fun for the entire family, and everyone is invited to come on out to Telluride this fall for a great time at the Festival of Cars and Colors.
These are the main events that you won't want to miss during the festival.
Concours on the Golf Course
The Telluride Golf Course is noted for its beauty and incredible mountain scenery, and it only gets better over the weekend when its driving range is filled to capacity with classic concourse-level vehicles. Saturday is set aside for the American Concours and Sunday for the International Concours. Hours for each day are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and those in attendance are invited to vote for their favorites.
Those who prefer two wheels over four won't be disappointed either because the weekend will also feature a Motorcycle Concours during the same hours. This event features motorcycles that are singularly unique, vintage or incredibly exotic. Vintage snowmobiles will be on display as well.
War Bird Exhibit
Situated at the Telluride Regional Airport on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., this year's special war plane is the TBM Avenger, which was used in WWII. It's recognized as the largest single-engine bomber plane and was built to carry a bomb as large as 2,000 pounds. Its odd folding wings are of special interest, and movie buffs may recognize this plane from its guest appearance on the Hollywood blockbuster, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.” Other aircraft will be on display as well, and airplane rides are available throughout the day. There's also a pancake breakfast at the airport from 8 to 9 a.m. and a special Hangar 29 event in the evening.
Cool Cars on Colorado
Telluride's historic Colorado Avenue, which is otherwise known as Main Street, will serve as the display area for some incredible cars that have not been seen at the other events during this festival. Different cars will be featured on Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there will also be a Cruise Colorado event to kick off the Friday festivities. This is when all of the cool cars parade from the Telluride Airport through downtown before taking their spot on Colorado Avenue.
