Though the beaches are fabulous on Spain's gorgeous island of Mallorca, many visitors are looking for something a lot more exciting than a day spent relaxing and playing on those sandy shores. That's not a problem either because Mallorca is filled with sea caves just waiting to be explored and cliffs that are absolutely perfect for an adrenaline-pumping leap into the Mediterranean Sea. These are just a few of Mallorca's trusted tour companies that offer safe, fun opportunities to enjoy these great adventures.
Adventure Sports Skualo
While some companies restrict the exploration of the sea caves to adults only, Adventure Sports Skualo offers a safe, fun and easy adventure that is suitable for anyone age 8 and up. This excellent family activity begins at the dive center in Portocolom, where you'll be outfitted with helmets, flashlights, neoprene boots and wet suits.
The fun starts with a speedboat ride to the entrance of Cova Del Coloms, and you'll enter the cave with a swim. Once inside, you'll be able to walk around the interior of the cave to see the many stalactites and stalagmites, enjoy a few jumps into both freshwater and saltwater and do some more swimming. This tour lasts up to three hours, and you must know how to swim to participate. Be sure to bring swimwear and a towel with you, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
Located in Binissalem, this tour company offers several cave tours that are sure to please those of every skill level. No experience is required for an easy exploration inside Cova Des Marmols, so it's perfect for beginners and those with children. Plan to enjoy a 30-minute walk on a well-kept path to get to and from the cave, and you'll have plenty of time to explore the many formations in this cave's various rooms.
Cova Del Coloms is another easy aquatic cave that requires no experience, but you must know how to swim to participate. Expect to enjoy exploring the cave's many rooms and formations along with its lovely clear lakes. Sea cave explorations are also available for those at experience levels from medium to advanced, and these include the caves of Sa Campana, Forat 502, Avenc de s'embut, Avenc de Fra Rafael and Avenc des Portuguesos.
Rock and Water
This Llucmajor tour company offers many exciting activities, and the sea caves are among the most popular. The main tour begins with a nice walk along the coast on the lovely white-sand S'Estany d'en Mas Beach. This 30-minute stroll takes you to Cala Falco, where you'll be outfitted with a helmet and a wet suit before swimming to the entrance of Cova Del Coloms.
Expect to spend about an hour exploring the many rooms of this cave system, and you'll see many stalagmites, stalactites and other rock formations. There will also be time for jumping from rocks of different heights into the calm pools for some more swimming. Those who want a bit more of a daring adventure may choose to rappel into the cave from a height of over 82 feet, and you'll be provided with all of the necessary safety equipment to enjoy this activity with no worries.
Cliff jumping is always safer with a knowledgeable tour company, and Experience Mallorca offers tours all year long. You'll be taught how to launch and enter the water before trying out jumps that range from 10 to 40 feet high. Each participant will start at the lowest jump and move up as their skill level and confidence grows. Those with younger children may also safely enjoy this activity during one of this company's family sessions. Experience Mallorca offers sea-caving adventures for those age 12 and up as well.
