A Bit of History

The very first Gracia Festival was held all the way back in 1817 when Gracia was considered its own little village filled with residents who worked in farming and other forms of agriculture. The celebration was first meant to coincide with the Sant Isidre Festival, which honored the patron saint of agriculture. As time went by, the festival gradually changed to honor and celebrate the neighborhood and its proud residents.

The Competition

During the festival, each street competes by decorating in ways that have to be seen to be believed, and fun and excitement may be found around every corner. A theme is selected by each street, and it's kept a secret until the unveiling so that everyone may enjoy the surprise together. Winning themes from past years have included the prehistoric years with life-size dinosaur replicas, the underwater world brought to life on land and the elaborate circus world.
