Farmer’s Markets & Mariachis

The team at Excpetional Stays would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year! I thought I would start the first blog of the New Year with some local, healthy, fresh food information. I’m sure there are a few of you out there who made new years resolution that involve a healthier 2011? There is no better way to kick this resolution into gear by enjoying fresh, locally grown, seasonal food. Farmer’s markets are always a major highlight of my travels – a great way to observe and enjoy local culinary customs, and experience the local culture in all it’s glory… In the Punta Mita area, Farmer’s Markets are popping up all over the place. These markets feature not only fresh-grown produce from small, local providers, but also an array of organic foods, prepared goodies and even a dash of artesania. Here’s where they’re happening: Sayulita Fridays, 10am to 2pm Casa de la Cultura Encouraging sustainable and ecological production; also features live music, and cooking demonstrations. San Pancho Saturdays, 10am to 2pm Plaza del Sol With over 15 vendors, and featuring items including organic coffee, natural medicines, fresh cheeses and prepared foods. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle Sundays, 10am to 2pm Plaza Principal More than 20 vendors offering farm-fresh produce and artesania, with live music. Eat healthy and support your local farms and small businesses. Guests of Excpetional Stays can combine a day trip to nearby Sayulita or San Pancho with a visit to the local farmer’s markets. Rosa Mexicano – Mariachis on the beach! Every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening, live Mariachis will be preforming at Rosa Mexicano in Punta de Mita . Enjoy beachfront dining along with creative and delicious food and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Recently added, a colorful upstairs bar and  art gallery so take in the view, sip a tequila from Rosa Mexicano´s fantastic selection and rock out to the only thing more Mexican than tequila, the mariachi!
