About Pride Barcelona
Much more than a simple celebration, the Pride event has been held in Barcelona each summer since 2008 as a way for the LBGT community to gather together and renew their commitment to fight for their personal rights. Supporters flock to the city from all around the world, and last year's event brought in more than 200,000 people. This year is going to be bigger and better than ever, and more than 250,000 individuals are expected to attend. Pride Barcelona is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, June 28, and activities will go on day and night all the way through Sunday, July 9. You'll find most of the festivities taking place in two main areas. One of these is the Moll de la Fusta, which is near the port, and the other is the Eixample district, which is affectionately referred to by the LBGT community as the Gaixample because of its many gay-friendly discos, bars, restaurants and shops.
The city literally ceases to sleep during this event, and you'll find much to see and do during your entire stay. There will be a huge foam party, several cultural events, art exhibitions, seminars, lectures, sports activities, a high-heel race and a drag-queen gala, and these are just a few more of the activities that you may expect to enjoy. Pride Parade: Set for Saturday, July 8, the parade will begin at 5 p.m. with a starting point at the Placa Espanya. This is a massive event that showcases thousands of marchers in brilliant costumes, festive floats, music, dancing and performances. You'll want to arrive early at 4 p.m. because a huge party will be held before the parade gets started. Mini Film Festival: Throughout the event, films by and for the LBGT community will be screened at various venues that are located both indoors and outdoors. You might just be the first to see the next big Hollywood film. Live Musical Performances: Many popular performers grace the stage at Pride Barcelona each year, and you never know who might turn up to entertain you. Nightly performances are planned, and you can count on music being played all day as well. Night Parties: At establishments throughout Barcelona, you'll find special festivities each evening when the sun disappears. Those who like the party scene will want to check out the discos, bars and clubs. Pride Kids: Children are welcome to join their parents at many of the activities that are associated with Pride Barcelona, but there's also a special area set aside just for their comfort and amusement. Supervision is available, and your children may enjoy such activities as bouncy castles, water fun, special entertainment, races, games and arts and crafts.
